Plant
A technologically advanced and sustainability focussed fleet.
Plant
M&J’s Plant and Fleet department are responsible for providing high quality construction plant and vehicles from leading manufacturers to support site teams in delivering our projects.
We provide a broad range of equipment and have focussed on investing in technologically advanced products, which can enhance production whilst also ensuring the safety of our people.
In addition, our emphasis on sustainability has led to our investment strategy concentrating on procuring products which reduce our carbon footprint. This has included purchasing hybrid excavators and equipment with the lowest fuel consumption in its range.
In 2022/23 we invested over £32m in new plant equipment, ensuring we maintain an average machine age of under 24 months, and enhancing the range with tier V engines reducing particle emissions whilst increasing productivity and reducing our cost of ownership. This was coupled with a £4 million investment in our commercial fleet with a focus on low emissions and improved engine efficiency.
A significant outlay has been made in site technology with over £1m spent on a combination of the latest generation of cable avoidance tools and site-based GPS technology. This has been followed in 2023 by the procurement of new height restrictor systems. Ensuring the health safety and wellbeing of our people and clients is our primary objective and investing in these systems demonstrates our commitment.
Activities are co-ordinated from our service hubs in the West Midlands & Bristol where a team of controllers are focussed on meeting our site needs, either through our own fleet or through our approved supply chain.
Our team of service engineers located from our workshops and field-based, work with our service co-ordinators to ensure our equipment and fleet is maintained to the highest standards and uptime is maximised.
Ensuring our equipment and fleet operate efficiently and safely is a key focus of our department. We have invested significantly in supporting our teams by providing usage and efficiency data which enables us to identify underutilised equipment which we can redeploy where needed. In addition, we can monitor equipment idling time and fuel consumption and focus on training to improve performance and reduce carbon use.
Fleet data is also used to monitor driving standards ensuring poor behaviour and fuel economy is addressed through driver training programs.
